For three hundred years we lived and worked the sea,
And we built our homes together by
the sea,
We lived worked and we played and right here we should have stayed.
The greed of one man, he stole it all away.

In the name of progress he dredged away the sand,
to build the docks on Devonport land,
No one asked us if we cared, the poor can always be spared,
He came to Hallsands to haul away the sand.

Haul away Hallsands bay,
When I leave this earth all trace will pass away,
Sing this song keep the memory strong,
Lest they should try again to wash our dreams away,

For many years they scoured the very sea bed,
'Till the sight of boats it filled our hearts with dread,
The beach receded to the wall then our homes began to fall,
Time was ticking for Hallsands Bay,

In January 1917
One last storm left nothing where once our homes had been,
We clung to life all the night, nothing left by morning light,
Except the ruins of Hallsands Bay.
